SVQ Plant Operations (Construction) at SCQF Level 5

The SVQ Plant Operations (Construction) SCQF Level 5 is a Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) that formally acknowledges the practical skills, knowledge and competence of individuals working in plant operations in the construction industry. It is part of the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) at Level 5, which corresponds to a practical, work-oriented qualification where candidates carry out routine and some non-routine tasks under guidance and with minimum supervision. Level 5 typically aligns with learning and work responsibilities comparable to senior school levels or early vocational engagement.

The qualification is based on National Occupational Standards (NOS) developed for the construction sector by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), ensuring that the content reflects industry expectations and current good practice.

On completion of the SVQ Plant Operations (Construction) SCQF Level 5, candidates will be eligible to apply for a blue competent operator card (NPORS/CPCS). Candidates must also have an in-date CITB Touchscreen Test for Operatives.

SVQ’s are designed to be flexible, allowing you to progress at a speed that works best for you. The time it takes to finish will depend on your dedication and engagement. For funded SVQ’s, you are required to be registered for at least 6 months, however, we will offer comprehensive support for over 12 months.

Assessment takes place fully within the work environment, with dedicated one-on-one support from an assessor. Competence is demonstrated through on-site observation, structured professional conversations, and documented workplace materials, including method statements, risk assessments, and job records. We also work with an excellent e-portfolio, where you can upload evidence in your own time, at a time and place that suits you.
